In cold countries, one of the largest and most significant costs happens to be internal heating during autumn and winter. While the sun does shine during this period, its heating power is lost due to most of it getting reflected away. Now you have special tinted glass that is able to insulate the building or house such that the heat gets trapped in, much akin to the way a greenhouse functions. This is able to drive up the internal temperature a slight bit, so to those that ask if window films will help in the winter, the answer is yes not to the extent that it helps in the summer to reduce the suns heat. But there is benefit in the cold of the winter. So Window Tinting Film can prove to be useful in lowering your house heating bills with a slight increase in the R Factor of your window units.

Where do you think the idea for Window Tinting originated? The old way of blocking the sun from windows used to be covering them with aluminum foil. Yes, it worked but the look was far from being the image most people wanted to project. Add the fact that you could not see out the windows and this just was not the ultimate solution for blocking the sun from your home.
Window Film has come a long way and the type you can purchase today is very attractive indeed. They are a solution not only for keeping the sun from ruining your furniture and floors but they look very nice on the inside and outside. Blinds may have done the trick several years ago but they are being replaced. Window Tinting can be purchased in a variety of designs and colors. The darker window tinting may be a choice if you are in an area of the country where the sun is very strong.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the Department of Energy plans to establish research centers modeled on Bell Laboratories to spark the development of disruptive energy inventions.
Chu delivered the Compton lecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Tuesday, where he told academics and local green-tech business people that the world needs technology breakthroughs in energy to hedge against high fossil fuel prices, to improve national security, and to mitigate the effects of climate change.
During his talk, Chu singled out a number of energy technologies that demand more research, including batteries, solar cells that convert sunlight into electricity, bio-energy, and capturing carbon dioxide and storing it underground.

May 11 (Bloomberg) — The U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change said advanced energy meters will be fitted in all the country’s 26 million homes and may save as much as 3.6 billion pounds ($5.5 billion) over the next 20 years.
The government’s preferred model for providing the meters by 2020 is for energy suppliers to install and maintain the devices while communication from the units is coordinated nationwide by an outside party, the London-based department said today in a statement.
The U.K. is looking at ways to reduce household energy bills, curb consumption and limit carbon dioxide output as it seeks to slash emissions 34 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels. So-called smart meters provide live readouts of energy use and transmit the information to utilities, providing more accurate billing. They also measure electricity produced domestically, including solar and wind power.

Thanks to a group of high school students, Greencastle-Antrim School District’s environmental center, Tayamentasachta, is going greener. Pending approval at tonight’s school board meeting, the students hope to install a wind turbine at the school farm to generate enough energy to power an aerator in the middle of the pond. The aerator adds oxygen to the water to promote life in the pond.
